I think my main point tho was ‘what better way to see a cathedral than in its primary activity’. As a resident I think I have free access but I enjoyed seeing it ‘in full flow’ albeit I also was not there to worship.
Interestingly, AFAIK, in secular France the state does own the historic church buildings and maintains them as part of their ‘tourism product’.
I liked your ruminations on the cathedral... I have felt some of the same feelings in greta church buildings... like the cathedral in Seville (the largest Gothic Cathedral in the world is its boast). Thanks for sharing your visit with us.
